Made up of 14 Higher Education Institutions in the State of Rio Grande do Sul – COMUNG is the largest Higher Education system in operation in Rio Grande do Sul and covers all regions of the state.
In 1993, the Joint Action Protocol was signed, which officially became three years later in the Consortium of Community Universities in Rio Grande do Sul – COMUNG. A true Education, Science and Technology network that provides relevant services of community interest, with an emphasis on education, health and innovation.
COMUNG Universities have a peculiar history: community higher education. Created by civil society and the local government, they are recognized by regional communities as an important development actor, constituting a public heritage. Nonprofits, with democratic and participatory management, are authentic non-state public institutions.
